Why this game exists

Wörtlinge was born from a true story: its creator, a French speaker living in Zurich, was looking for a motivating way to learn German. Classic lessons bored him — so he built the game he wished he had: a world where every vocabulary word becomes a collectible creature, where der/die/das become battle types, and where reviewing makes you want to come back.

How you learn without noticing

Every creature embodies a German word: KÄSLING is a cheese (der Käse), WARTESCHLANGE a waiting line. You remember the word because you remember the creature.

Wörtlinge is a learning game, not an official school: in-game diplomas follow the European framework (CEFR) as a progression reference. It's probably one of the most motivating ways to build vocabulary, prepare for a school exam or level test (A1–B2), or simply learn at your own pace, at any age. Is it really free?

Yes: the entire A1 level (3 regions, 40+ creatures) is free, ad-free, with no time limit. Paid packs add advanced regions.

What age is it for?

From 8 to 88: kids love collecting, adults love the structured A1→B2 progression. No inappropriate content, no paid randomness.

Does it replace a course?

No — it complements one beautifully. The game builds vocabulary and reflexes; a course or tandem partner brings conversation.
